The Blessing Soundtrack by KAYE
In 2016, my sister wrote this song for me called “Carry You.” I still get emotional when I hear it. The song was about how she would always be there as my sister, whether we made it or not, whether we found partners or not, whether our parents were there or not, our bond was unshakable. As much as this series is about my fiancé, it’s also dedicated to my sister. I could never marry someone who didn’t understand that. The first time the actors read for Episode 6, I cried!
I knew that I wanted to have her songs in the end credits of every episode, but I also wanted to incorporate them into the actual score. Taking a page out of the Hamilton / Les Miserable playbook, each character is now associated with a musical motif, pulled from one of Char’s pop songs. At first, she was extremely intimated to compose for film— she’d never done it before. But she pulled it off brilliantly. Having her music weaved into the series is such a special gift to this project.
